The content-related requirements of the health insurance companies for the professional competences

Criteria for the certification of course offerings in individual behavior-related prevention
according to § 20 Para. 4 No. 1 SGB V, as of November 23rd, 2020

Prevention principle „Promotion of relaxation (palliative regenerative stress management)“ – Far Eastern relaxation methods Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong

The following specialist skills can be acquired as part of state-recognized vocational training or academic studies at a university or technical college with a focus on an area of ​​activity or by means of a non-formal professional qualification with a degree lasting at least two years.

State-recognized vocational or academic qualification related to an area of ​​activity: A state-recognized vocational or academic qualification is considered to be related to an area of ​​activity if it covers at least a part of the specialist skills within the minimum standards below. There may also be further qualification measures from institutions of education, training and further education that award state-recognized professional or academic degrees or that are state-recognized as well as from professional and specialist associations.

Non-formal vocational qualification with a degree: Non-formal vocational qualification with a degree is training at private institutions that is not regulated by the Vocational Training Act (BBiG) or specific state laws. The specialist skills listed below can also have been acquiredin such a non-formal professional qualification lasting at least two years with a degree. The training must be completed with an examination and the success of the training must be proven with a certificate or certificate.

The following requirements apply to this qualification:

Trainers who teach relaxation methods from the Far East have appropriate professional training in accordance with the GKV prevention guideline. Trainers who impart scientific competence outside of the Far Eastern relaxation method need a corresponding state-recognized professional/degree

This must be evident from the final certificate/report of the graduate.

  • A curriculum that demonstrates compliance with the minimum standards defined in the Prevention Guide is in place
  • Any modules acquired in a state-recognized vocational/degree must be credited by the training institution

If the minimum standards have only been acquired in a non-formal professional qualification with a degree, then at least 200 hours of course instructor experience must also be proven.

Hatha Yoga Expertise

Education, Psychology (≥ 30 hours or 1 ECTS)

  • Basics of didactics and methodology, motivational action, psychological and pedagogical basics of human experience and behavior (learning, social processes), instruction and training
  • Mediation techniques in theory and practice
  • Basic aspects of stress experience in relation to didactics
  • Transtheoretical model of behavior change
  • Basic aspects of education in the context of diseases

Philosophy and History of Yoga (≥ 60 hours or 2 ECTS)

  • Philosophical and historical sources and references to yoga, especially relevant historical yoga texts
  • Ethics: Yama and Niyama
  • Essential Schools and Branches of Yoga History
  • Embedded in traditional Indian medicine, aspects of Ayurveda

Scientific and medical basics (≥ 60 hours or 2 ECTS)

  • Anatomy and physiology (basic knowledge, including the musculoskeletal system with joints, functional chains, fascia, neuroendocrinology, psycho-immunology, respiratory mechanics, cardiovascular regulation)
  • Other essential organ systems (digestion, kidneys, nervous system, sensory organs)
  • Healthy functioning and selected stress-induced diseases (particularly highly prevalent chronic diseases including chronic pain syndromes)
  • Physiological, neurobiological and psychological explanatory models (fascia, movement coordination, breathing coordination, sensory learning)
  • Neurobiology of Meditation
  • Concept of Mind-Body Medicine and Relaxation Response
  • Biopsychosocial model including salutogenesis

Medicine (≥ 30 hours or 1 ECTS)

  •    Current status of basic and clinical research on yoga, asana, pranayama and meditation
  •     Relevant aspects from the psychological, neuroscientific and sports medicine fields

Technical practical competence

Yoga practice for healthy people (≥ 180 hours or 6 ECTS only in attendance)

  • Communicating the essential asanas in theory and practice (possibly using aids) as well as their possible specific effects, possible risk of injury, main effects and contraindications
  • Essential techniques of pranayama with specific effects, possible side effects, contraindications
  • Essential meditation techniques with main effects, possible side effects and contraindications
  • Possible interactions and synergies with other techniques of relaxation, tension regulation, movement
  • Aspects of and interaction with nutrition
  • Specific aspects regarding different life situations of participants (e.g. pregnancy, old age, yoga practice with regard to asana, pranayama, meditation with in-depth self-awareness
  • and training in guidance and here first of all general knowledge and practice in the three areas as well as competence of yoga for healthy people

Yoga practice and illness (≥ 90 hours or 3 ECTS exclusively in attendance) until June 30th, 2023

Yoga practice regarding asana, pranayama, meditation with training in guidance and advice for essential clinical pictures, in particular chronic back, neck, headaches, rheumatism, arthrosis, chronic neurological diseases, cancer, depression, high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, asthma and intestinal diseases

  •  With a focus on aspects specific to the disease: Teaching the essential asanas in theory and practice (use of aids if necessary) as well as their possible specific effects, possible risk of injury, main effects and contraindications
  • Essential techniques of pranayama with specific effects, possible side effects, contraindications
  • Essential meditation techniques with specific main effects, possible side effects and contraindications
  • Possible interactions and synergies with other techniques of relaxation, tension regulation, movement
  • interaction with diet
